Rockets and the environment may not seem an obvious mix, but here at #RocketRoundLeicester we are blown away by all the eco-friendly activity going on during GREEN WEEK, 23rd August to 29th August!
Have you made it to all of our Rockets yet? Why not ditch the car and blaze a trail around the sculptures by bike? If that sounds too strenuous, you can jump aboard one of the city’s new e-bikes! On Wednesdays and on Sunday 29th August, you can grab a FREE ride too, thanks to our partners BID Leicester! Find out how. What are you waiting for?!
Many of our Rockets are inspired by the environment. David’s Flora and Fauna pays tribute to Sir David Attenborough whilst Space Jungle is inspired by a desire to preserve the natural world and Making Space for Wildlife is about just that – nurturing wildlife in the city. Check them out and don’t forget to snap a selfie with them and use #RocketRoundLeicester!
How about celebrating Green Week with a litter pick for LOROS? Birstall Guides and Brownies, proud creators of a Junior Jet Rocket sculpture, donned their wellies to pick up rubbish from the river around Watermead Park. Thank you! If you’d like to arrange a litter pick, contact Emma Baxter, our Supporter Engagement Coordinator for Young People.
During Green Week, why not take a Walk on the Wild Side? This beautiful Rocket celebrates the plants and insects of Leicester’s waterways, and is designed by artist Kathleen Smith and sponsored by Spectrum Health. The waterways are a place that is not often appreciated for wildlife, but you can find many plants and insects living there. This design shows some of the wildlife and aims to encourage people to get outside, walk and discover the nature around Leicester.
LOROS Day Therapy nurse Katie Sherratt loved Walk on the Wild Side when she saw it, commenting: “The bridge and the canal are an iconic part of Leicester. It links the city with the nature on our doorstep. It’s just lovely.”
Whatever you do this week, get out and about and enjoy your #RocketRoundLeicester trail!
