We are over-the-moon to introduce a series of Rocket Round Leicester comic book strips from local artist, Katy Dynes. These explore Katy’s sculpture design and painting experience, along with a closer look at her Sponsor, LOROS and the Learning Programme. Enjoy!
Intro from Katy:
Hi! My name is Katy and I live in a little village on the Northamptonshire/Leicestershire border, in the UK – welcome to my series of comic book strips.
After graduating with an HND in 2D Animation from the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design (now the Arts University Bournemouth), I have been working as a Freelance Illustrator and workshop provider since 2007.
My work covers a huge range of subjects including greetings/handmade cards, book illustration, cartoons, pet portraits, plush prototype designing/making, murals, private commissions and teaching Art workshops to Primary School children.
I have been/am very fortunate to work with many high profile clients, Publishers, individuals, organisations and Charities. In my ‘spare’ time, I can often be found reading, dreaming or outside, walking the surrounding fields and sketching in my gorgeous garden. Since moving to the Midlands, I have been lucky enough to just ‘disappear into and absorb’ this amazing countryside, always finding a little magic wherever I go!
I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work with LOROS, Wild in Art and my super sponsor Trucklink.
Not wanting to give too much away… my Rocket sculpture is all about people. Looking at how they interact, how they come together and the wonderful sense of Leicestershire’s diverse multicultural community.
As an Illustrator, I’m endlessly fascinated with stories, and I thought it would be fantastic to bring all the people, illustration and story elements to life. This is how ‘The Adventures of Katy and the Rocket’ comic strips came about!
Throughout the comic book story, I discover that my Rocket sculpture is MAGIC and has the ability to travel with each character. The stories follow me going on an adventure with them and experiencing a moment in their life.
