Schools and colleges can blast off the New Year by sponsoring their own mini version of our incredible Rocket sculptures – the Junior Jet!
Students will be able to design, decorate and launch the Junior Jet sculptures from a blank canvas as part Rocket Round Leicester, a Wild in Art event brought to the city by LOROS Hospice. Sparking creativity, the project encourages collaboration, escapism and celebrating the local community.
Each Junior Jet will stand proudly alongside the 40 artist-designed Giant Rockets for the 10-week trail across Leicester in summer 2021. At the end of the trail, the Junior Jet is the school’s to keep and display – a lasting legacy of their achievements and contribution.
As part of the Learning Programme, each sculpture will be accompanied by Rocket Round Leicester’s own comprehensive Resource Pack. Curated by the National Space Centre, Leicester City Council and Leicester City in the Community as Education Partners, pupils can reach for the stars with an enriched programme and dynamic learning experience.
The Resource Pack focuses on three key themes, including; Space and the Environment, Creative Discovery and Loss and Bereavement. It has been designed to complement key stage teaching across a variety of subjects, making it easy for teachers to seamlessly integrate Rocket Round Leicester into the classroom. The pack is full of lesson ideas, STEAM activities, and useful resource links, and delivers against the new Ofsted Framework in an exciting and unique way.
Schools will also be able to use their Rocket to apply for several industry recognised awards such as the Crest Award, Artsmark Award and Eco School Award, allowing schools the perfect opportunity to reach new heights.
Rocket Round Leicester is reaching out to local schools and colleges with this exciting adventure to look to the future with optimism and hope following a time of uncertainty.
Funds raised by Rocket Round Leicester will go to support LOROS Hospice patient care.
